Leena Niemistö

Founder & Managing Director

Leena Niemistö

MD, PhD — Impact-driven Healthcare Leader & Serial Entrepreneur

Dr. Leena Niemistö is one of Finland's most influential healthcare entrepreneurs and impact investors. With over 30 years of clinical and leadership experience, she combines deep medical expertise with visionary business acumen. She holds an MD and PhD from the University of Helsinki, specializing in physical and rehabilitation medicine, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Vaasa in 2018.

From 2003 to 2016, she served as CEO and majority owner of Dextra Oy, growing it into Finland's leading private healthcare center before facilitating its acquisition by Pihlajalinna Oyj — a landmark deal that marked Pihlajalinna's entry into the Helsinki metropolitan area. She continued as CEO post-acquisition, ensuring a smooth transition.

In 2013, she founded Kaikarhenni Oy — named after her three sons Kai, Karri, and Henri. Through Kaikarhenni and the co-founded Hippocras LP (in partnership with the European Angels Fund), she has invested in over 50 companies across approximately 250 funding rounds, focusing on healthcare, technology, and sustainability.

A passionate advocate for arts and culture, Leena chaired the board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet for nearly a decade (2016–2025) and serves on the jury of Ars Fennica — Finland's most significant visual arts prize. In 2026, she joined the board of Uniarts Helsinki as chairwoman. She is an avid tennis player and art collector, with the Niemistö Collection spanning over 600 contemporary works.

Product

The product must be compelling, solving a real problem with a scalable solution.

3
